My family received tickets to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park and visited for the first time over spring break. If you are planning a trip to San Diego any time soon, add the San Diego Zoo Safari Park to your list of must-visit attractions.
Visiting San Diego Zoo Safari Park with Your Family
We have driven to San Diego numerous times and passed the exit to the San Diego Zoo Safari Park each time, but never stopped. This year for Spring Break we wanted to see some of the best attractions that San Diego has to offer so the Safari park was our first stop.
We had heard that it is best to head to the Africa Tram first thing in the morning to avoid the lines, so we headed straight there. It was a bit of a walk to get there, but we were glad that we headed there first. The Africa Tram, takes you to observe the animals of Africa in a naturalistic environment. We saw cheetahs, zebra, giraffes, rhino and many, many more animals.
CHOOSE YOUR SAFARI
San Diego Zoo Safari Park has several safaris that are not included in admission but that give you close-up access to the animals, or allow you to swing or zip through the trees above the animal exhibits.
ENTERTAINMENT AT SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK
The park has several opportunities for animal encounters and other entertainment throughout the day. There are Animal Encounters, the Frequent Flyers bird show and the popular Cheetah Run.
We really loved the Bubble Show! It is only on Friday and Saterday afternoons (and doesn’t really involve animals), but it was a really great break from all of the walking we did throughout the park.
Can you tell by their faces that they liked the show? HAHA!
DINING AT SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK
The Safari Park has several options for dining within the park and they also allow you to bring in small coolers with food, which is what we did. I really appreciated that because as someone who has to watch for food allergies, it can be really hard and stressful to find something that you can eat without having to worry.
SAN DIEGO ZOO SAFARI PARK DISCOUNT TICKETS
When you are traveling with a big family (or even just by yourself) it’s always best to look around a bit for good deals.
My go-to place for planning Southern California vacations is Getaway Today. Not only can they help you find accomodations near the Safari Park, but they can also match any other posted ticket price. They are GREAT to work with.
Also, if you plan to visit several San Diego attractions, check out the Go San Diego Card. These are a really great way to save money if you plan to be in the area for several days. The Go San Diego Card can get you into 40+ attractions and a fraction of the normal price.
TRIPADVISOR – Trip Advisor often has great deals that you can grab on top hotels and attractions including San Diego Zoo Safari Park. Deals come and go so keep an eye out if you are planning a vacation.
We really had a wonderful time visiting the San Diego Zoo Safari Park! One last tip I will give is to wear comfortable shoes!! Leave the stilettos at home (yes I saw some! Yikes!) and be prepared to do A LOT of walking up and down hills.
