If you are visiting San Diego with your family, a trip to SeaWorld is a must! We had a wonderful time on our recent trip and I’m sharing all of the tips and tricks that I discovered while visiting SeaWorld San Diego with our family.
Tips for Visiting SeaWorld San Diego
For Spring Break this year, we decided to head south to sunny San Diego and hit up some fun attractions in the area while we were there. SeaWorld hosted our family for the day and we had a wonderful time!
We hadn’t been to SeaWorld in several years and the park has changed quite a bit. I’ve always loved learning about animals (I am a former Biology teacher after all), but I wasn’t sure if my oldest kids would enjoy SeaWorld as much as me. We all had a great time and they LOVED the roller coaster, which were not there the last time we visited. (How has it been that long?)

But of course walking through a tube surrounded by sharks is right up there in excitement. And we loved the penguins…
and sea turtles!
SeaWorld San Diego Shows/Attractions
The shows are always a fun part of visiting SeaWorld. I recommend checking the schedule for the shows when you first get to Sea World and plan to be in your seat at least 15 minutes before because they fill up. They have some great entertainment while you wait.
We loved the Sea Lions LIVE show! We couldn’t stop laughing at Biff the stage hand!
The Sea Lions are always a family favorite.
Dolphin Days is also a must-see event. But once again, get their early or you’ll be sitting at the top!
And if you sit close to the front, be prepared to get wet! If you are in the splash zone you will 100% get wet!
All Day Orca Play is a great place to get all of your questions answered about killer whales and learn about their behaviors from the specialists that work with them. Coming later this year Orca Encounter will open and an expansive infinity screen will bring the killer whales’ story to life in exciting detail.
Rides at SeaWorld San Diego
The rides were new to me. The last time we visited, they were just starting to put them in. SeaWorld San Diego has a handful of rollercoasters that my boys loved with more opening in the next couple of years. If you plan to ride all of the rides, prepare to get wet! The Journey to Atlantis has a big splash that can get some guests soaked (depending on where you sit) and Shipwreck Rapids will definitely leave you drenched! We loved all of the rides so don’t miss them.
They also have Sesame Street Bay of Play for the younger crowd. My youngest (5) loved the Elmo rides and the playground. And I’m thankful for a fun big brother who would take him on the ride for me. I can’t do things that spin!
If you choose to bring a swimsuit, there is also a splash pad that is fun on hot days.
Where to Eat at SeaWorld San Diego
Sea World does not allow outside food into the park, but there are several restaurants and food carts located every where so you won’t go hungry.
One thing that stuck out to me is their dedication to families with food allergies. If you have a family member with a food allergy, the staff will go over-the-top to make sure you are accommodated. Each restaurant manager will have you fill out an allergy card and will personally make sure your food is safe and not contaminated. This was VERY impressive to me! It is so hard to enjoy theme parks (or anywhere outside your home really) when you have a food allergy.

If you plan to be in San Diego for a few days, the Go San Diego Card is a great way to see several attractions for a fraction of the cost. With the Go San Diego Card you really can see the best of San Diego, while saving a bunch of money.
