Monday Motivation: Gratitude

This morning I am taking the boys to grandma’s house in search of cooler weather and as I have been running around like crazy, packing things, getting my kids up and dressed and pretty much going about the craziness of our everyday life it dawned on me that I often fill my life with so much busyness that I forget to stop and be grateful for the little things that I have been blessed with.

In my post on 25 ways to get out of a mommy rut, the last thing mentioned about getting out of a rut was to count your blessings and as I was thinking of those blessings I remembered this little poem that had been given to me years ago.  I dug through my nightstand and found it and wanted to share it today.  I think I need to frame it and hang it in every room of the house because, even though my days can seem chaotic and loud and often overwhelming, I am so grateful for my boys that make it that way and I know I take my little everyday blessings for granted.

Monday Motivation: The Military Mama

A Tribute to Military Moms. www.thejoysofboys.com

Since today is Memorial Day, I wanted to write something that shows my appreciation to those who are serving or who have served in the military.  Their courage and willingness to sacrifice everything is something that I cannot comprehend but am incredibly beyond grateful for.  But how could I fit that into the “Monday Motivation for Moms” category?  But then I remembered that behind many soldiers is the wife and the mother to their children.   Those moms who silently sacrifice behind closed doors and expect no worldly recognition for the difficult job THEY are asked to do. Today I want to give a tribute to those moms who are at home raising their little ones while their husbands are oceans away from home, putting themselves in harm’s way and who are willing to give everything for the nation that they love.  I want to say a huge “Thank You” to those moms who don’t just have the normal worries that come with having children but have those worries multiplied on a daily basis as they think about the safety of their husbands.

Monday Motivation: The Invisible Mom

The Invisible Mom - Motivation for moms

Not long ago I thought I had my life pretty much figured out.  Ever had that feeling?  The feeling that you finally know exactly how you want your life to go and what you want to do with your life.  You feel content and you look at the future and begin to make plans to reach your goals.  You think that everything will fall into place and then…you blink and one second later nothing goes as planned.  Everything that at one point was so right for you suddenly becomes so wrong for you and everything you thought you wanted is suddenly NOT what you want. About 6 months ago my life did a 180°.   I pretty much had my life planned out but then I was reminded that life doesn’t always go as planned and that isn’t always a bad thing.

Mama and My Boys

I hope all mothers had a wonderful day yesterday on Mother’s day. My boys made me breakfast and gave me gifts of homemade cards and jewelry and my husband bought me some desert flowers to plant along the side of our house where our strawberries decided they couldn’t stand the heat.  Oh, and he even planted them, which is much better than receiving flowers and then having to plant them myself.   But let’s be honest,  the day after Mother’s Day may seem like somewhat of a let down when the pampering ends and it’s back to reality.

When I was a single girl in college I came across the following story that I have saved over all these years.  I pull it out on those days when I start to wonder if what I am trying to do as a mother is really making a difference and if sacrificing a more glamorous type of lifestyle for dishes, laundry and piles of messes was really worth it.
